UHRICE U KYJOVA BRANCH

Today February 27, 2010, the Cejc to Uhrice u Kyjova branch line of Ceske Drahy slid into oblivion.

Here are some photos of the last day:

The branch runs from Cejc in Southern Moravia to Uhrice u Kyjova. It is a classic Czech branch, currently closed and the formal abandonment is expected in April 2010. The station in Uhrice u Kyjova is not exactly anywhere, much less in the town and in the modern age nobody is going to walk miles for a train. Originally it was part of through branch from Zdenice to Cejc which had freight at the end but was then cut back to Cejc to Uhrice when the freight disappeared. We were fortunate enough to have a special "last" train on February 27, 2010 and the weather was glorious as the pictures show.

The branch is 16.5 km long with stations and marker locations as follows (km from Cejc in brackets):

Odb Cejc (1.2 km)
Terezin u Cejc (2.6 km)
Krumvir(6.5 km)
Kloubouky u Brna (8.9 km)
Damborice(14.7 km)
Uhrice u Kyjova (16.5 km)

An unusual feature of the branch was the requirement to reverse in Kloubouky which is a terminus station.
